“You’re such a snappy dresser Sonja. I would never have thought of mixing leopard print tights with a stripey vest and that billowing Hawaiian shirt tied like that. But it works. Must be the colours or something. Not sure about those dangling earrings though, they look like men’s private bits, except they’re going the wrong way.”
“Thank you, Prunie. Lulu inspires my fashion sense these days. My granddaughter at five years old, is tuning in early to the look of her time. She’s naturally good at mixing things up, I think it’s a new cross cultural global look. She has these instincts. She’s always trying to wear my clothes you know. I feel that’s a sign!
Honestly though Prunie, I designed these earrings! Sies! Your sense of humour is lewd and often outright edgy.”
“Sjoe Sonja, that’s a lot of words. Maybe I get it from my great grandma. I unintentionally told my first rude joke at age four. I mean, I didn’t even know it was a rude joke. Everyone laughed. At me. Not with me. My grandma whispered in my ear, smiled at me and gave me a sideways hug. I remember that. Not the joke though.
Sometimes, you just need to be able to say a few things as they are Sonja. I can always see when you’re trying not to laugh. Laughing is good for your complexion and blood pressure. Especially when making decisions.
Anyway, I have been thinking about a name for your new online pre-loved clothing appreciation and restoration business. How about ‘Style over Feshin’ as a name?” Its quirky-kitsch, don’t you think.
OK, judging by the look on your face, maybe not. How about you ask your nephew. I’m so excited for you that he’s helping you get started with that re-use, re-cycle fashion blog- thingy.

“I’m thinking of simply calling it ‘Lulu’. She’s my inspiration. For many reasons. Those who come after us, hey Prunie.
I thought after I let go of ‘RandM-Mystique’ as my clothing label that I would never sell clothes again. That name all happened by accident anyway. Funny how now it feels like it’s from some way other time. A different phase in life.
I’m still thinking about what to create as a tag for my current target audience. Some women over 50 can be sensitive you know.”
“Only the ones who are still trying to be 25. Once they get over that, they’ll know one of the gifts of being over 50 is realising life is short. Not giving a shit in a good way, is a lifeskill Sonja. It helps to keep things in perspective and be light in your heart.
Ok, back to business. Just remember to make sure your tags suggest ‘people over 50’, not ‘women over 50’. It’s all unisex Sonja; anyone might enjoy your clothing range ideas. Only last week your granddaughter painted Frikkie’s toenails. She charged him, you know.”
“Aag, my little entrepreneur. Honestly, they arrive with confidence these days you know.”
